Eastern King

The default US King. The historic name 'Eastern King' contrasts with 'Western King' (California King).

European King

Varies (typically 62.99 x 78.74) in · Typically 160 x 200 cm

Continental European size; varies by country. Spain, France, Italy each have slightly different conventions. Closer to a US Queen than a US King.

The historic 'matrimonial' size before Queen and King became dominant. Common in guest rooms and smaller bedrooms.

Six inches wider than a Queen. Common in hospitality and some upgrade lines. Not on the ISPA standard schedule. Sheet selection is thin.

The most common US size. The reference anchor for upgrades to either King.

Short Queen

Common in RVs and travel trailers. Five inches shorter than a standard Queen to fit the smaller wheelbase.

Two XL Twin mattresses sold as a pair for adjustable bases. The XL Twin half-size is not on the ISPA schedule; expect narrower availability.

Split Head King

One mattress with a head-only split allowing each side's head to elevate independently. Single fitted sheet. Common compromise between full split and single mattress.

Oversized regional name; dimensions vary by manufacturer. Bedding is mail-order only and significantly more expensive.

Twin

The default US single bed for children and guest rooms. Five inches shorter than Twin XL.

Twin XL

ISPA standard

38 x 80 in · 96.52 x 203.2 cm

Standard US college dorm size. The half-size of a Split King. Same length as Queen and Standard King; same width as Twin.

UK King

Regional standard

59.06 x 78.74 in · 150 x 200 cm

UK retail size labelled simply 'King.' Closer in width to a US Queen than a US King. UK and US King sheets are not interchangeable.

Wyoming King

Typically 84 x 84 (square) in · Typically 213.36 x 213.36 cm

Oversized square King. Very rare; bedding is mail-order. Not on the ISPA schedule.

XL Twin

The half-size of a Split Cal King. Not on the ISPA standard schedule. Distinct from Twin XL (38 by 80, ISPA standard) despite the similar name.
