This is one of the most common searches from Cal King buyers who love the Thuma aesthetic. The alternatives that do offer Cal King frames include Floyd, West Elm, Pottery Barn, and Article.

What to Look for in a Cal King Frame
- ■Centre support rail: Cal King is 84 inches long. The centre of the mattress is farther from either end than on a Standard King. A centre support rail running lengthwise is considered essential for foam and hybrid mattresses, which can sag without it.
- ■Slat spacing under 3 inches: Most foam and hybrid mattress warranties require slat spacing of 3 inches or less. Wider spacing can void the warranty on some brands.
- ■Side rail strength: Long rails flex more over an 84-inch span. Solid wood or steel rails are preferable to hollow MDF rails for a Cal King.
- ■Headboard attachment pattern: Cal King headboards are 76 inches wide vs 80 inches for Standard King. An incompatible frame-to-headboard attachment system is a common problem.
Can a Standard King Frame Fit a Cal King Mattress?
No. Cal King frames are deliberately 4 inches longer and 4 inches narrower than Standard King frames. A Cal King mattress (72x84) on a Standard King frame (76x80) will have 4 inches of mattress hanging off the foot and 2 inches of overhang on each side of the frame rails. Neither works. A Standard King mattress on a Cal King frame leaves a 4-inch gap at the foot. Always buy the correct size frame for your mattress.
