Brands That Skip Cal King (April 2026)
- Awara: Organic latex, focuses on King and Queen, no Cal King in current catalogue
- Nolah Evolution: Cal King only on select flagship models, not all lines
- Allswell: Cal King discontinued from most lines as of 2024
Always verify Cal King availability on the specific model before purchasing. Some brands offer Cal King only on flagship models.
Editorial Picks by Category
Best overall Cal King
Saatva Classic
Innerspring hybrid with three firmness options at the same price as Standard King. White-glove delivery is included and matters for Cal King, which is harder to self-install in homes with narrow staircases. Strong edge support across the full 84-inch length.
Best memory foam Cal King
Tempur-Pedic Adapt
Premium pricing but at parity with Standard King. Engineered as a separate product rather than a stretched version. Excellent pressure relief for back and stomach sleepers who use the full bed length.
Best budget Cal King
Nectar Premier
Memory foam at $1,349 with no Cal King premium. Ships compressed in a box, which solves the stair problem for most homes. Good motion isolation for couples.
Best for tall and hot sleepers
Helix Midnight Luxe
Hybrid with a cooling cover at $1,949. Engineered for the full Cal King length. Best for people who need the length advantage but also run hot at night.
Best organic Cal King
Avocado Green
Carries a $200 premium but is a genuinely different product: latex over organic wool fill with GOTS certification. Durability is exceptional. Cal King is usually in stock despite lower production volumes for this size.
Why Some Brands Charge a Cal King Premium
It is not profiteering. Cal King production runs are 15-25% the volume of Standard King runs at most brands. Per-unit foam and fabric costs are higher due to lower volume. In some cases the product is genuinely different: Brooklyn Bedding's pocketed coil count differs slightly on the Cal King, and Avocado's latex layer is a different cut. The $83-200 premium reflects real manufacturing costs, not size-based price gouging.
When to Skip the Brand Matrix
If you already have a preferred brand and that brand does not make a Cal King, do not compromise. Firmness and material suitability matter more than size gain. A great Standard King beats a mediocre Cal King even for a tall sleeper who would prefer the extra length. See also sleepnumbervstempurpedic.com for a detailed brand comparison.
